About Us

Thank you for your interest in SVCT. Below is some more information about our organization.

President's Message

Over 5,000 theater goers paid to attend 20 drama/comedies and 30 musical performances during SVCT's 40th season. On behalf of the SVCT Board of Directors I want pass on many thank you's to everyone who made SVCT successful last season. First I want to thank the advertisers, individuals who bought tickets and who purchased individual, family, patron, sponsor and benefactor memberships. They provided the money that kept SVCT in business. For the 2009-2010 Season, if you own a business I ask that you purchase program advertising. If you are a community member please purchase a membership in addition to seeing our productions.

SVCT could not have produced five shows without all of the volunteers who worked in the roles of producers; directors of: actors, music (vocal and instrumental) and choreography; technical managers: costuming, set construction, lighting, sound, property, box office; house and concessions managers; and all of the volunteers who had roles as painters, builders, ushers, light and sound operators, and dressers. Our teen and child actors additionally had the support of their families chauffeuring them to rehearsals, sewing costumes, applying makeup, and giving them dressing help at shows. Why do so many volunteer? Many are supporting their family members who act but most of them absolutely love theatre craft, want theatre to thrive in their community and I sincerely hope they do it because they feel appreciated.

While the volunteers work behind the scenes to get the plays onto the stage there were those wonderful amateur actors, singers, dancers and musicians, ages 7 to 80, who spent many hours memorizing, rehearsing and polishing their parts for not only their own personal growth but for the entertainment of our community.

In addition to our patrons and members, we are thankful to have received financial support from The Morgan Hill Community Foundation which awarded SVCT a grant that provided scholarships to help pay cast and costume fees for 10 actors. The Arts Council Silicon Valley provided a grant to SVCT for the development of a library system to improve the knowledge base of all volunteers who take on support roles in its productions. The Morgan Hill Rotary Club provided a grant to purchase a scaffolding system that made set construction and warehouse operations safer. Out and About Magazine, and Main Street Media Group which publishes The Morgan Hill Times and The Gilroy Dispatch, provided SVCT help with advertising and promotion.

In June 2009, SVCT was notified that a second grant was awarded by Arts Council Silicon Valley to provide for workshops in acting and theatre craft.

Please read about our new season and start planning when you will attend each show or how you would like to help us. Contact our e-mail address: svct@svct.org if you wish to purchase advertising, a membership, or be added to the mailing list which by the way, is never shared with anyone. Also e-mail us if you have questions, comments or are interested in volunteering in any of the areas mentioned above.
