SVCT is the resident theater company of the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse. It seats approximately 175 patrons.

Morgan Hill Community Playhouse

The Morgan Hill Community Playhouse is located at 17090 Monterey Road, Morgan Hill, at the SE corner of Monterey Road and 5th Street. (This is just north of the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, located in downtown Morgan Hill at the corner of Monterey Road and East Dunne Avenue.)

Our Performance Space

Originally built in the 1920’s as an Arts and Crafts style church, the Playhouse was beautifully renovated by the City of Morgan Hill and re-born into a modern performance facility in 2002. Typically there is seating for about 175 patrons.

Accessibility

The Playhouse is wheelchair accessible, with removable seats in the front rows. Assisted listening devices are available (ask at Will Call as you enter the theater). Cushions are also available for those who prefer a little softer seat.

Box Office

The Box Office and lobby open one hour before each performance. Tickets purchased online can be picked up at that time if you have not pre-printed them or do not have them on your phone. (Easiest is usually to bring up your tickets on your phone so the ushers can scan them.) Seating is assigned at time of purchase. The house opens 1/2 hour before the performance. Typically evening performances are at 8 pm and matinees are at 2:00 pm, but please verify times when purchasing your tickets. (For example, youth shows are frequently at 7 pm instead of 8 pm.

Directions & Parking

Take 101 to Morgan Hill. Take the East Dunne exit and turn west onto East Dunne. After crossing the railroad tracks and then Depot Street, turn right into the large Community and Cultural Center parking lot. After parking, walk to the north end of the parking lot and turn left onto 5th Street. The Playhouse will be on your left at the corner of 5th and Monterey.

  • Additional Parking: If the Community Center parking lot is full, another close alternative is the parking garage located between 3rd and 4th Streets. The entrance is on 4th Street (just one block north of the Playhouse), also between Monterey and Depot. There is also free street parking. However, as a courtesy, we ask that you please not park across the street from the Playhouse in the restaurant parking lot.
  • Parking during the Friday Night Summer Music Series: If you are attending a production at the Playhouse on a Friday night in the summer, be aware that Morgan Hill has a popular summer music series on Friday nights at the amphitheater adjoining the Community Center parking lot. Please plan on leaving a few minutes earlier as it may take a little longer to find parking.

Refreshments & Lobby

Feel free to arrive early. Refreshments are available for purchase in the lobby before the show and during intermission. Please note that drinks (other than water) are only allowed inside the theater if they have lids.

Browse our lobby displays; take a selfie in our production themed photo booth (and share with your friends); enjoy refreshments from our concessions. For our youth productions, you may be able to purchase treats or candy grams for your favorite youth performer. For adults productions we frequently offer a full bar as well as snacks and soft drinks.

Dinner and a Show?

Morgan Hill has many wonderful restaurants, including a great selection within walking distance of the Playhouse. Particularly if you are coming from out of town, you might want to consider dinner before or after the show. Click here for a Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce restaurant list.

A history of the creation of our Theater: From a Church to a Playhouse

In 2001, as the City of Morgan Hill embarked upon a major redevelopment project to build a Community and Cultural Center in downtown Morgan Hill. SVCT proposed and collaborated with the city to have a 1920′s church, which was already on the property, moved to the corner of the campus and refurbished as a modern playhouse.

(Read more about the building of the CCC.) The Morgan Hill Community Playhouse was beautifully renovated as as a charming blend of old and new, re-born into a modern, 186 seat performance facility. SVCT was established as the resident theater company of the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, opening in February, 2003.
